Emma Mavodza received an Ambizione grant from the SNSF
Emma Mavodza, who is currently an adjunct researcher at the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded | H2R was recently awarded an Ambizione grant by the SNSF for her project Navigating the Unexpected: In Vitro Fertilization Jourmeys of Black Women in South Africa.
In her project, Emma aims to critically examine the intersections of race, postcoloniality and reproductive politics, highlighting the unique challenges Black women face when navigating infertility and assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) in the South African context. To this end, ARTs are viewed not as mere medical interventions, but as reproductive assemblages deeply embedded in local socio-cultural understandings of (in)fertility.
