Trans* Reproductive Justice and Assisted Reproduction in Germany– Where Are we now, Where are we Heading?

This contribution focuses on the landscape of trans* and queer medically assisted family building in Germany by giving an overview of historical developments of the legal and socio-political situation as well as an outlook on what trans* reproductive justice visions for the future could entail. A qualitative perspective based on previous work further points to some of the discursive complexities of assisted reproductive technologies being simultaneously positioned as both facilitating yet limited regarding their potential for queer liberation and social justice. This reflection is accompanied by some action points drawn from the literature regarding the challenges that need to be tackled in order to foster family equality and make reproductive justice a reality in Germany.Continue reading
