Panel on “Challenges and Prospects in the Regulation of Human Reproduction” at the 2022 ICON-S conference

The “Human Reproduction Reloaded | H2R” project of the University of Zurich has the pleasure to invite you to the panel “Challenges and Prospects in the Regulation of Human Regulation” that will take place on 5 July 2022 from 17:30 to 19:00 Zurich time (UTC+2) at the Annual Conference of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S).

The panel is chaired by Dr. Elena Brodeala and features two other members of our project: Prof. Andrea Büchler and PhD Researcher Marie-Hélène Peter-Spiess, as well as Prof. Zvi Triger (Haim Striks School of Law, Israel), Dr. Alice Margarita (Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Germany), Prof. Mélanie Levy (University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland) and Prof. Judit Sándor (Central European University, Austria/Hungary).

The panel discusses various challenges and prospects in the regulation of human reproduction by looking at a number of pressing issues in the field. First, the panel approaches the question of posthumous grandparenthood and its impact on the definition of family with a focus on Israel. The attention is then directed to legal questions raised by trans parenthood and surrogacy, in both domestic settings and before the European Court of Human Rights. Finally, through the last two presentations, the panel reflects critically on the regulation of human genome editing and discusses the need for the recognition of new rights in relation to the birth of designer babies.

The panel will take place on-line. Further details on registration to the conference can be found here.
