Brown Bag Lunch with Prof. Dr. Alice Margaria

The URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded | H2R has the pleasure of inviting you to the brown bag lunch talk “Trans*(forming) Legal Parenthood?” by Prof. Dr. Alice Margaria.

The event will take place on Thursday, 26 October 2023, from 12.15 -13.30 (CET / Swiss time) in person at the University of Zurich. It will be chaired by Agnes Kandlbinder, PhD candidate in the URPP sub-project 4 CRISPR Technology in Human Reproduction.

The talk will take place in room KOL-E-13. If interested in attending, please fill in the form below.

About the talk

Trans* people may desire to become genetic parents, just like cis people. The gradual abolition of sterilisation requirements for gender recognition, combined with assisted reproductive technologies, has made this choice an increasingly viable option. This presentation will explore some of the questions that trans* procreation poses to European legal systems, tracing in particular the emerging meanings of legal parenthood vis-à-vis the life experiences of those involved. By using trans* procreation as a lens, this presentation will also create room for reflections on broader socio-legal issues, including the normative and gendered character of birth registration practices and stratified legal parenthood.
