Seminar description

This seminar will explore how the law – both constitutions and legislation – can become more gender-sensitive in the face of pushes for change such as the regulation of assisted reproduction technology, the recognition of the rights of sexual and gender minorities, and protection of individual autonomy and access to healthcare, including abortion. The workshop will examine these developments not just in the framework of progress towards more liberalisation, but also of backlash and regression, including on previously won gender equality guarantees. It looks at both comparative and international law to clarify good and bad practice in this area and draws on the convenor’s experience engaging policy-makers and international organisations on these topics.
